With "Ghosts of Europa", the enigmatic Norwegian artistic entity known as MORTIIS presents an album that he views as a creative liberation. "Ghosts of Europa" is the sonic testimony of an experienced and matured musician, who created what he loves most and does best: electronic rock with stylistic influences from many genres while not being bound by any that creates dark soundscapes, cinematic sonic visions, and a plethora of emotions. Of course, MORTIIS' musical handwriting is ever present. Echoes from the often quite divergent phases of his previous works can be found across "Ghosts of Europa". Yet the creator of musical worlds left hardly a stone not turned in his epic quest for genuinely new ways of expression. As a result, this cinematic and visionary album often feels expansive, strange, and darkly dystopian. In this, "Ghosts of Europa" reflects its maker's struggles while creating the album – as for MORTIIS, these tend to come into existence at the cost of friendships and relationships as well as much soul searching in order to reflect both, the album's general orientation towards electronic and industrial rock as well as the particularly wide range of stylistic influences reaching beyond its core, the choice of sound engineer fell on a most renowned specialist for precisely such sonic experiences: Luckily, Sean Beavan agreed to mix "Ghosts of Europa". His credits include working with NINE INCH NAILS, DEPECHE MODE, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, GUNS N' ROSES, and SLAYER among many other greats. Just when you think that you have finally figured "Ghosts of Europa" out, MORTIIS will surprise you with another facet and fresh aspect of his richly detailed masterpiece.
With "Quantifying Cosmic Doom", SOULBURN renew the dark pact with their loyal following of delivering extreme and harsh metal that always pushes to new frontiers while staying true to its core values of black, death, and doom. Built upon a solid foundation of death metal, "Quantifying Cosmic Doom" seamlessly adds walls of melancholy that are chiselled out of doom bedrock and crowns towering riffs with the fierce and spiritual flames of black metal. A wide range of musical variability as well as the masterful storytelling that runs like a golden thread through the epic songs give SOULBURN away as experienced veterans who are utterly confident and passionate about their extreme craft. SOULBURN rose from the ashes of ASPHYX in 1996, one of the times when the Dutch death metal pioneers fell apart before reuniting sooner or later. Their acclaimed debut album "Feeding on Angels" (1998) doubled up as a statement of musical intent as it contained a stripped down but deadly concoction of doom-laden black metal, which quickly established them as a devastating musical force. Behind the fifth SOULBURN album, "Quantifying Cosmic Doom", lies a long journey that never followed a straightforward road but travelled through many dimensions and took hidden paths. Yet the Dutch metal extremists have undeniably reached a dark and beautiful peak.
With their seventh full-length, "Death Doom Punks", ARROGANZ deliver exactly what the title promises: the brutality of old school death metal meets the attitude and unpolished directness of punk. This album pulls no punches and hits straight into the gut and face. The German trio has amplified 15 years of experience into a record that comes with their trademark sound but is confident and mature both in songwriting and storytelling. On "Death Doom Punks", ARROGANZ are never afraid to let their influences shine through as they obviously made them their own. Driven by a heavy pumping bass and relentlessly whipped drum skins, the trio stacks massive riffs on top of each other and finishes any remaining resistance off with a barrage of deep-throated growls. Whatever ARROGANZ are doing, it always comes out at 100% while never forgetting the original roots in old school death metal. The trio's unwillingness to compromise has been hailed by many and earned them the hate of others - about which they do not give the slightest… as authenticity and honesty in every aspect are their key traits. With ARROGANZ what you see and hear is what you get, and "Death Doom Punks" is not just the album title but also a declaration of allegiance and intent. Get on board, bang your head, slam and rage - or get out!
The Ruhr Area is also the place where RESURRECTED hail from, both mentally and physically, and its history has served as an important part of the inspiration that is driving the brutal death veterans' eighth full-length "Perpetual". Ash, soot, and the ringing noise of steel hammers seem particularly fertile ground for metal – from BLACK SABBATH via JUDAS PRIEST to KREATOR and SODOM. On "Perpetual", RESURRECTED keep a steady course, which remains firmly on an old school death metal trajectory. This is completely befitting for a band that ranks among the earliest pioneers of the brutal style in their country. What makes the difference are the many years of experience, both in songwriting and on stage, which are reflected in the technical proficiency as well as the powerful and absolutely crushing tracks that are a tribute to their craft on this album. RESURRECTED spent a large part of 2025 channelling their decades of experience, talent, and unwavering passion for death metal into "Perpetual": RESURRECTED did not grow old, they got even better!
This would be the very definition of "Total Mastery", which is the title of MESSTICATOR's sophomore album as well as one of the ominous concepts that permeate its lyrics. Sinister tales are as much a trademark as are fast, hard, and uncompromising songs for the German band from Hamburg. On "Total Mastery", MESSTICATOR are still skilfully balancing on the edge of death and thrash metal, but with more experience comes a general levelling up and more of everything: "Total Mastery" is faster, harder, and even less willing to compromise than its predecessor "Forthcoming Revelation" (2022). With "Total Mastery", MESSTICATOR confirm their remarkable strength regarding the writing of catchy, deadly tunes but also demonstrate their ability to learn and grow spectacularly fast.
From crushing doom-ridden ultra-heavy parts to calculated outbreaks of utter brutality, this record offers everything a still beating death metal heart could ask for. And of course, those cosmic horrors of the Great Old Ones, forbidden sounds, and tentacled death metal are still rising. The German band has also added more deeper meaning to their tales of cosmic terrors as a healthy antidote to stereotypes. Lyrically, SLAUGHTERDAY have always built on the well-established foundations of their genre by taking inspiration from American author H. P. Lovecraft and other masters of horror. And while sinister things crawl and creep through the duo's timeless brutality, they have always portrayed them with a sinister flair of their own. These days, the band has repurposed those monstrous creatures as metaphorical ciphers for relevant contemporary topics. SLAUGHTERDAY present new horrors and more brutal madness than ever that make "Dread Emperor" essential listening for any self-respecting old school death metal afficionado!
This album delivers all the Swiss precision and trademark elements their following has come to expect of them but also with more of everything: more tempo and serious speed, more brutality, more power, more thrash, more death but also more harmonies, more melodies, and more musicality! There are also more tentacles, more jaws, more razor-sharp teeth, more twisted mutation, and definitely more evil! "Mountains of Madness" is conceived as an echo of and a bold manifesto about the state of the world as well as an artistic sign of our time. Back in the year 2006 things looked less bleak when a bunch of young musicians were just looking for some good times. Vocalist Daniel Altwegg had joined forces with three of his friends and a hot desire to simply form the hardest, loudest, and rawest metal band of their Swiss home, the City of Basel. After a phase of stylistic experiments, the band settled for an aggressive yet melodic course that combined elements of death and thrash metal. For all of those who are sick and tired of hearing the same stuff all over again, TOTAL ANNIHILATION offer the perfect cure with "Mountains of Madness": simply more of everything!
With their fourth album "Cosmocrator", KHNVM are entering a downward spiral into the abyss of the human experience. The death metal brainiacs explore the crossroads of psychology, philosophy, and spirituality. The album title "Cosmocrator" carries a dual significance. It symbolises the "Ruler of the World" and, within religious vocabulary, also stands for "Satan". This reflects the album's exploration of common phenomena, expressed through an adrenaline-fueled artistic lens. With the thought-provoking lyrics and harsh yet to the point musicality of "Cosmocrator", KHNVM promise not to just deliver on musical terms but also to captivate those who are drawn to complex narratives and philosophical depth. KHNVM are a death metal band that has walked the line between old school death metal and contemporary influences without stumbling. Fronted by Bangladeshi-born guitarist and vocalist Obliterator, the band was founded and is firmly based in Germany. When KHNVM entered the scene with their debut album "Foretold Monuments of Flesh" on Testimony Records in 2019, they were immediately met with acclaim both from critics and fans alike. In the wake of the second album, "Portals to Oblivion" (2021), KHNVM began to perform live. Meanwhile, KHNVM have toured, entered stages at many festivals, and played headliner and support shows across Europe. With "Cosmocrator", KHNVM offer a dual approach: The easy way is to enjoy the album simply for its outstanding musical merit. Yet there is also the far more winding path to take with its intricate lyrics and rich thoughts to be analysed, explored, and discussed for many years to come - and new meanings to be found as well as discoveries of fresh ideas to be made with each new turn!
Knock, knock. The most terrifying of all terrifying nights is here, and they are back, ready to make your skin crawl.

But first, rewind exactly one year. Enter the newly restored 1920s cinema at Frogner in Oslo. Frescoed stars, cobweb, myrrh, and pumpkins. On the big screen: John Carpenter’s cult classic Halloween (1978). In the pit: Ulver, performing a reimagined version of the iconic score. A surprising and timely one-off right before the capital city shut down for real.

After the lights were turned off that evening, the All Hallows’ Eve quartet – Ole Alexander Halstensgård, Kristoffer Rygg, Tore Ylwizaker and Stian Westerhus – went full isolation in their studio below the haunted hill, fantasizing about bygone nights of slasher, exploitation, and giallo. Three or four months went by, the band returned to the living, and sent their radiophonic workshop experiments off to the Dogs of Doom, France, where friend and fellow film freak, Carpenter Brut did a razor-sharp mix before taking it to Thibault Chaumont (Deviant Lab) for the master.

Scary Muzak, on one hand a homage to Carpenter’s themes – five out of twelve tracks are covers whereas the rest comes from the outer realms – and on the other zooming out on the aesthetics of the late ’70s and early ’80s popular culture. It is perhaps the Norwegians’ most hauntological moment, whirling up themes and moods, horrors and mysteries hidden in the foggy back alleys of your youth. Imagine the gloomy siblings of Les Humphries, Gert Wilden, and their respective orchestras, armed to their teeth with synths, pads, FX. Sometimes classy and chilling, other times amusingly smooth and sleazy, and at times outright beautiful in its suspense-filled vigour, Scary Muzak is an inspired, goblinesque addition to the ever-expanding Ulver catalogue. Interior films, remember?

It’s Halloween, and everyone’s entitled to one good scare.
This encompasses STIGMA DIABOLICUM’s "Luna De Nocturnus" demo (1991) and rehearsal tape as well the THORNS demos "Grymyrk" (1991) and "Trøndertun" (1992). Mastermind Snorre Ruch aka Blackthorn is widely credited as the original creator of the Nordic black metal guitar sound that in combination with the riffing and concepts of MAYHEM's Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth laid the sonic foundation of the as famous as infamous Norwegian scene – and subsequently the global phenomenon that followed.

These most significant releases have previously been compiled by Kyrck Productions under the title of "Stigma Diabolicum" and physically released in 2007 and 2015. With the current range of reissues these historical recordings will finally receive the spotlight and appreciation they deserve. The pages of the premium 36-page artbook CD edition feature personal memories and notes written by the original band members, who tell stories and offer a fascinating glimpse into the times when black metal was reborn. It also includes a collection of rare photos capturing raw, behind-the-scenes moments, adding another layer to their intense, twisted creations. The artists reveal how they were different and why their legacy stands out. The new vinyl edition sees "Stigma Diabolicum" released on a 2LP for the very first time with all 15 tracks, which are 4 more than in the previous vinyl editions. In commemoration of exciting times gone by, "Stigma Diabolicum" is also reissued on MC format for the first time.
Dive into the dark and twisted sonic realms of death metal with the debut EP, "The 1986 Doink City Massacre," by the relentless force known as BONGINATOR. Crafted with bone-crushing intensity, this EP encapsulates the essence of death metal with a unique blend of aggression and experimental flair. BONGINATOR takes you on a rough journey through the sonic underworld, where every riff is a weapon and every growl is a declaration of chaos. You can easily witness the musical development of the band as you will find the new track 'Blood Diner' as a special bonus on this EP. "The 1986 Doink City Massacre" is not your typical death metal experience. BONGINATOR, true to their name, incorporates unconventional elements, pushing the boundaries of the genre. Brace yourself for mind-bending, fresh death metal with a humorous twist on the lyrics, „The 1986 Doink City Massacre“ already starts the storyline of (a movie to come?) „Stoners vs. Aliens“. Don't miss the chance to own a piece of this musical mayhem pressed on beautiful pink and purple coloured vinyl. Whether you're a seasoned death metal enthusiast or a curious newcomer, BONGINATOR's debut EP is a must-have addition to your collection. Get ready to unleash the beast within and immerse yourself in the sonic brutality of "The 1986 Doink City Massacre." Join the legion of metalheads who have succumbed to the relentless onslaught of BONGINATOR!
BONGINATOR are part of a new wave of young death metal aficionados that embrace the old school values of the style but add a fresh approach. This might cause a heart attack with those who think that the genre became too open-minded after 1986, but BONGINATOR are best described as the missing link between the good old days and death metal here and now. Metal and weed are an already established combination that has already found outlet in such well-established acts as Cannabis Corpse and Weedeater. BONGINATOR were not founded as challengers to such incumbents, but frontman Erik Thorstenn started with a strong vision to carve out his own musical claim when he founded the band in the New England state of Massachusetts during the year 2022. Taking inspiration from classic 80s horror and action movies is a given in this scene, but BONGINATOR blend old school death metal, crazy caveman riffs and the lunacy of 90s Colombian drumming with the relentless brutality of Slayer and even 80s synth-wave elements. Although BONGINATOR are obviously nodding to the past, the are definitely looking towards the future, hence their infamous claim „two-stepping neon weed death“.
Hymns dedicated to alcohol. Sardonic songs of praise. Sung in a musty, shabby pub where the people are as old as the stories they tell, the tables are sticky, the light is a flickering, oily twitch and the landlord is the unfriendliest person for miles around.

“Traurige Trinkerlieder” was recorded at Fleetenkieker's home in the summer of 2024, mixed by Patrick Urban (NatureSound Recordings) and mastered by Markus Stock (Klangschmiede Studio E).
RATS OF GOMORRAH unleash their debut full-length "Infectious Vermin" onto a horrified world. If the image of a malicious horde of rats does not give you the creeps, maybe the fact that "Infectious Vermin" is the result of the German duo's frustration with the metal scene and its reluctance to any change does. No worries, although RATS OF GOMORRAH are averse to simply regurgitating all the tired clichés of an average death metal album, they have not completely abandoned that ship. They just took some detours into heavy and speed metal territory, kept vocal pitching varied, and added some hot spices such as crust-infused riffs and catchy choruses. RATS OF GOMORRAH are one of those bands that have a much longer story behind them than their emergence under that name suggests. Strictly speaking the German duo only crawled out of their hole with a new rodent moniker in 2023. Yet they also started out with over a decade of death metal experience under their pelt. Guitarist and vocalist Daniel Stelling and Moritz Paulsen on drums had already been a part of the internationally active Northern German death metal trio DIVIDE since 2009, which had become a duo in 2016. Hopefully, by now there is an itchy feeling on your skin, and rustling noises from behind your walls, while a sense of dread and panic is spreading. The best antidote: blast "Infectious Vermin" on ten – and never a rat will you ever see more. Well, maybe a neighbour or four knocking on your door. So what?! Tell them all that RATS OF GOMORRAH rule supreme!
The young band from Westphalia released their debut full-length album, "Tales of Sorcery and Death," in 2019. Merciless death metal with a sawing HM-2 sound dominates the soundscape, yet axe master Dome already reveals his penchant for virtuoso soundscapes. The combination of brutal death metal and intense melodies would become a trademark of the band, which they further perfected on their subsequent albums. The song "Lycanthropic Death Squad" is still not only a nasty headbanger, but also a staple of NIGHTBEARER's live shows.
Celebrating more than 50 years of Birmingham's most famous four, the 'inventors' of heavy metal are being honoured by the preeminent tribute trio led by guitarist and singer Zakk Wylde with the double album "Doomed Forever Forever Doomed". This loving tribute contains the Americans' brilliant take on BLACK SABBATH's second and third full-lengths, the classic heavy metal masterpieces "Paranoid" (1970) and "Master of Reality" (1971). ZAKK SABBATH were founded by BLACK LABEL SOCIETY guitarist and singer Zakk Wylde, who is widely renowned for his many years as lead guitarist for OZZY OSBOURNE and now PANTERA. After initially only performing live with rotating members, ZAKK SABBATH solidified a stable cast with the addition of OZZY OSBOURNE and ROB ZOMBIE bass player Blasko and Joey Castillo on drums (also of DANZIG and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE). Inspired by the 50th anniversary of BLACK SABBATH's self-titled debut full-length, ZAKK SABBATH released a tribute to this monumental heavy metal milestone under the title "Vertigo" in 2020. The album was heaped with praise from critics and fans alike. The trio scored a massive global success as witnessed by impressive Billboard chart entries such as #5 on the US Hard Music chart, #7 on the Current Rock Albums chart and #27 on the Billboard Top Albums chart alongside #1 in Metal Albums in France and #3 on the German Album chart, as well as #9 on the UK Top 40 Rock/Metal chart among others. Pure passion for classic metal has driven ZAKK SABBATH to erect an even more monolithic monument to BLACK SABBATH than before with the double album "Doomed Forever Forever Doomed". Time to bang heads again to these beautifully revisited songs that easily rank among the most influential and consequential ever composed by humans!
VEMOD are by no means an average band. The Norwegians exist in the liminal spaces and the crossroads of places. The trio has chiselled their sophomore full-length "The Deepening" from the same sonic granite that its predecessor "Venter på stormene" came from over a decade ago. This bedrock is found in Namsos, where VEMOD were conceived as a lifelong passion project at the turn of the century by then 12-year old Jan Even Åsli. The nearest big city is Trondheim where the fiercely individual local Nidrosian black metal scene, which refers to the city's original name, provided VEMOD with its first point of musical reference as embodied by the first demo "Kringom fjell og skog" (2004).

When the Norwegians reemerged seven years later with both the track "Moestæ Qverelæ" on a split-single and the demo "Vinterilden" in 2011, they had considerably changed. The trio had taken a step outside by strengthening elements that have already been present before: a sprinkle of the majesty reminding of early IN THE WOODS..., a dash of melancholia, and a knife tip of introvert contemplation among a wide range of emotional and vivid sonic imagery. VEMOD's musical transition finds comparable parallels in the development of French brothers-in-spirit ALCEST even though there was no direct influence flowing either way. In hindsight, the Norwegians also pioneered such currently popular styles such as blackgaze and post-black metal, although they never subscribed to either. With their debut full-length "Venter på stormene" just a year later in 2012, VEMOD opened their music to new places: A mind-blowing performance at the prestigious Beyond the Gates festival in 2013 and the legendary special show within the national treasure of the Vigeland Mausoleum at Oslo's Inferno Festival 2014 cemented VEMOD's excellent reputation even across the Atlantic.

Now, "The Deepening" arrives with a different production, which resulted in a changed overall tone compared to earlier works and the Norwegians also reached out and tapped into new stylistic strata adding further elements to their sound. Even the lyrical themes running through "The Deepening" tell of change, transience, transformation, and growth. "The Deepening" offers an opportunity to look past long held beliefs and comforting illusions. At the crossroads of VEMOD's second album at this point in space and time waits a deepening understanding of their musical world.
Slightly shorter tracks, fast forward blast beats, and their characteristic doom-driven passages all add up to a contemporary version of classic death metal that will cement the German's status as one of the hottest young acts of this most brutal genre. CARNAL TOMB took inspiration from the works of H.P. Lovecraft as well as gore and zombie movies such as Amando de Ossorio's 1972 genre classic "Tombs of the Blind Dead", and old Italian funeral places called 'putridarium', in which the corpses of the deceased were left to rot. These themes have also inspired the morbid cover artwork of "Embalmed in Decay" by the artist Skaðvaldur. CARNAL TOMB were formed in Berlin in 2014 out of a hunger for old school death metal that possessed all band members. Besides a remarkable number of demo recordings, EPs, split and single releases, their two full-lengths "Rotten Remains" (2016) and "Abhorrent Veneration" (2019) earned the band an excellent reputation in death metal circles around the globe. With the putrid death metal horror of "Embalmed in Decay", CARNAL TOMB raise the blind dead from their tombs and unleash these monsters and other brutal evils upon an unsuspecting world.
DOMKRAFT generally stay true to their musical course on the new effort, but the Nordic trio has audibly matured and sharpened their writing as well. The trademark towering doom anthems remain, but with an ever so slight shift toward heavy rock through small tweaks and nuances. DOMKRAFT formed when singer and bassist Martin Wegeland, guitarist Martin Widholm, and drummer Anders Dahlgren bonded over a mutual love of bands such as SPACEMEN 3, MONSTER MAGNET, SLEEP, and HAWKWIND. Drawing from the heaviest of their combined influences, they crafted a sound that blends towering dirges, mind-bending psychedelia, and hypnotic minimalism, as embodied by DOMKRAFT's monolithic 2016 debut album "The End of Electricity," the crushing 2018 follow-up "Flood", and their acclaimed and massively amplified third full-length "Seeds" (2021). With "Sonic Moons", DOMKRAFT blast through the escape hatch to the emotionally charged inner spaces of the mind, soaring through fantastic new solar systems toward unexplored musical planets. Now is the perfect time to embark on the intergalactic journey with them!
