Diversity always was a matter of concern to Dark Suns from Leipzig. Since their inception in 1998, the band strived for progression, which makes them ‘Prog' in the truest sense of the word, no matter which form it takes. While their beginnings were characterised by Death- and Doom influences, the band dabbled successfully with the form of the concept album on their sophomore "Existence," making their initially raw music more epic with Rock elements and clear vocals, not unlike Opeth. The great questions of existence are the common thread of the band's work, and in order to explore these questions, Dark Suns shy away from stylistic constraints. "Grave Human Genuine" for example, released to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the group, shows the band's more experimental side and flirts with electronic music, while "Orange" from 2011 not only goes back to Krautrock and Psychedelic, but also comes close to progressive Alternative Rock à la The Mars Volta.
